Feisty Fowl
Workshops
We always have, and still do, believe that empowering others with the skill set to produce their own is the best way to generate value and appreciation for food raised well. Our processing unit will not only be a resource offering low-volume producers the essential processing services needed to grow and thrive. But also a space in which to learn the skills needed to take full responsibility for producing food for yourself and others. In this space we will be offering hands-on workshops for those curious about the art of butchery.

WORKSHOP
Chicken Husbandry & Butchery May 11th, 2023
12:00-4:30pm
$195 per student

Home-grown chicken may very well be one of the most delicious delicacies available to the small-scale homesteader or farmer. Juicy, tender and full of flavor, once experienced, these birds make it difficult to go back to grocery store chicken. Join us on the farm for a day of exploring raising and processing poultry for the table. Together, we’ll walk through all aspects of chicken production from start to finish; including brooding, housing, feeding, pasturing, dispatch, processing and packaging. This is the essential workshop for anyone interested in raising a backyard or small-scale production flock. Each student will receive two chickens to process under the guidance of our resident feral woman farmer and butcher.
By participating, you'll receive:
-
Two succulent pasture raised broilers for your family freezer
-
One hands-on workshop where you will learn to slaughter, scald, pluck and process your three birds under the instruction of your farmer
-
Prior to processing your birds, you'll join your farmer in the field to learn about housing, feeding and rearing meat birds
The workshop fee is $195 per person, including all of the above, and you are most welcome to bring one accompanying child (under 16) per adult, at no additional cost to the workshop.
